The History of Creekside Christian Academy

"Creekside Christian Academy has witnessed the faithfulness of God in the 50 years of existence."

In 1973, Clayton Christian School began as a ministry of Clayton Community Church in Morrow, Georgia, with the idea of providing a Christian alternative to area public schools.    The school began with elementary and junior high grades and added one high school grade each year.   In 1987, after having a high school program for several years, the scope was narrowed to the foundation years of preschool through eighth grade.

The name of the school was changed to Community Christian School in 1993 to be consistent with the change in the name of the church to Community Bible Church.  The name also more accurately reflected the service to communities beyond Clayton County.  Early in 1996, Community Bible Church finalized plans to move to a location in Henry County.   The school considered staying in the community for the following reasons:  great success in reaching the diverse Christian community in the area and moving to a new location would abandon many of those families; the school maintained separate financial status and staff; a positive open relationship existed between the ministries.  After consulting with school families, the decision was made to incorporate as an independent, board-run corporation.  The incorporation was accomplished on June 7, 1996, and non-profit determination was finalized on November 12, 1996.

A local church, Rock Springs Baptist, purchased the facilities and the school negotiated a lease arrangement for the 1996-97 school term, to be renewed annually.  Though the relationship with Rock Springs was positive, it became clear to both ministries in the fall of 1997 that the vision God had for each could best be accomplished by the school having separate facilities.  Investigation began on available properties.  After several attempts at buying land, negotiation failed and other options were reviewed.

In 2004, Pinecrest Baptist Church proposed a lease arrangement for their new facility being constructed in Henry County.  Several town hall meetings were held to discuss this opportunity and the decision was made to enter a lease agreement with Pinecrest for the 2007 – 2008 school year.   Due to the close proximity to another Christian school with a similar name, a decision was made to change the school name to Creekside Christian Academy.   Creekside began the 2007 – 2008 school year with students in K3 through eighth grades.

After consulting with school families, the school board and administration made the decision to add a high school, by adding a grade each year.  In the 2008 -2009 school year, Creekside Christian Academy added a ninth grade class.  The first senior class graduated in May of 2012.

Creekside Christian Academy has witnessed the faithfulness of God in the 50 years of existence.  In 1997, when it became obvious that the school needed to relocate, a prayer campaign, “God Will Make a Way,” began.  The committed prayers of students, staff, parents, and other family members helped the school through many lean years.   During the years between 1997 and 2007, many times the school year ended with doubts about the opening of the doors the following year.   God definitely answered those prayers and made a way for Creekside to partner with Pinecrest.  Since that partnership, God has richly blessed CCA!  Enrollment continues to grow, finances are sound, and the school is able to be a witness to the community of the power of prayer.
